Congratulations Titans! We surpassed our second Write the Check goal, raising $25,467 to date! Thank you for your contributions and company matches! We have big plans underway this year with new playground equipment being the most prominent and expensive.

If you are planning to donate, please don't let the fact that we have reached our goal stop you! We are continuing to campaign until October 25th and every donation goes DIRECTLY back to RPE students. Click on this link to make a donation and support RPE students: https://riverplacepta.membershiptoolkit.com/store

We would like to give a big shout out and thank you to all of the families who have already contributed to Write the Check.  You can also see their names written on leaves of the Titan Tree located in the front vestibule of RPE.

To learn more about donation levels and how the funds support our school, please visit: https://riverplacepta.membershiptoolkit.com/writethecheck

If you've made a matching contribution through your company (or are planning on making one), please let Angelique Dale know: angeliquedale@gmail.com . When we receive these, it does not say who it is associated with and we want to make sure to thank you!

Thank you to Lindsay Koenig for creating RPE's Running Club!

And thank you to all of the early morning volunteers who are making it happen!

We saw Titan students turn out in huge numbers to participate in grades 1st-5th. (Kinder has their first Running Club morning on 10/24). And teachers are reporting that students are focusing better due to the early morning exercise!

Volunteer to help keep the Running Club success strong, or just come run with your kiddo in the morning!

https://leander.ezcommunicator.net/edu/LEANDER/quick_login.aspx?OID=282&app=26&path=oppsignupurl

Students who are interested in running will need to first check in with a volunteer in the MPR during morning SOAR time.

Run Club Schedule through 2019 (7:25-7:40am):

1st grade: 10/23, 11/6, 11/20, 12/11

Through small steps we are working on brightening the halls of RPE for our students. Last spring we added the multiplication stairs and over the summer, bright paint was added to each of the grade level halls, creating a happier, more stimulating learning environment for our Titans!

River Place Elementary's custodians were showered with gratitude last week during Custodian Appreciation Week!

November 11th is Veterans Day!

River Place Elementary has 2 events happening to honor all Veterans!  On November 11th the 2nd Grade would like to invite all parents, family, friends and Veterans to a special performance in the MPR at 10:45am.  If you are unable to attend the performance but would still like to participate, we will be featuring Veterans by posting pictures, names, dates of service and the branch they served in on the wall by the Cafeteria.

Drop off pictures at the front office or send them in your students backpack to their teacher and they will be given to Chris Simpson. She has many from last year so if you submitted to Mrs. Simpson via email last year, please email her and she can verify if she has them!  The pictures of friends and family members that have served in the United States Armed Forces are a powerful reminder to students and adults of the sacrifices our service men and women make for our Country!  Please have pictures and information to the office no later than Wednesday, November 6th

Join us as however you can in remembering those that have served on November 11th.  Thank you!

Chris Simpson: chrism.simpson@leanderisd.org

Ignite Auction (formerly Ignite Gala) is RPE's biggest fundraiser and is scheduled for April 4th at RPCC. We are starting to pull our committee together and would love to have some new faces. Our meetings are fun and this is a great way to get involved with the school and meet other parents!

Please contact Kendra Hays kendrahays@gmail.com for more information.

We are having a Hockey Unit in PE next Wednesday and Thursday, October 16-17th. We are learning the skill of "striking with a stick to a hockey puck/ball" in PE class.

We are asking kids to wear their hockey jerseys during these dates IF they have one. If not, a sports jersey will work as well!

Thanks! -Coach Fyffe

October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and according to new BSA data, Generation Z believes bullying is the biggest issue facing their generation and the number one issue they want to solve.

That’s why we are asking all Scouts to wear their Scouting uniform to school on October 16th to make it easy for their classmates to find people they can count on for a kind word; a lunch buddy; or a resource to help them recognize, safely respond to, and report all types of bullying. The goal is that once other students know who the Scouts are, they will feel comfortable reaching out to those individuals whenever they need a friend.

Here is the BSA article for more information: CALL TO ACTION FOR SCOUTS TO HELP TAKE ON BULLYING DURING NATIONAL BULLYING PREVENTION MONTH.
P.S. If the Scout still does not have the Scout Class A Shirt, they can wear the Class B Pack Light Blue T-Shirt.

While you and the kids are home for fall break, do a scavenger hunt and find those box tops!  Here are a few participating brands that might be surprising:   Hefty, Nestle water, Old El Paso, Ziploc, Kleenex, Scott, Reynolds, Paper Mate, and Finish.  Plus, don’t forget to search for the more well-known brands like  Annie’s fruit snacks, Chex Mix, Fiber One, General Mills fruit snacks, Motts fruit snacks, most cereal boxes, and more!

Although we can still submit those clipped box tops, the program is moving to an app.  Add the Box Top App and take a quick photo of every HEB, Target, Costco, and other grocery receipts to help us reach our goal.
Our goal is to raise $1,000 and we’re only at $10 through the app.
Just imagine how much money we could raise for our school if each family did this every week!

If you have any questions, contact Angelique Dale: angeliquedale@gmail.com

Thank you!

Fall Fest / Trunk-or-Treat!
Friday October 25th 5:30-7:00PM
in the Fields behind RPE

Join us in decorating your vehicle's trunk or tailgate for the Trunk or Treat at this years RPE Fall Festival.  We need approximately 30 volunteers to decorate their trunk and bring candy/toys to be handed out. We will have high school volunteers available to man the cars and hand out goodies so you can still participate in the festival with your family.  Your trunk decoration can be as simple or creative as you would like. There are a TON of ideas on Pinterest. All themes/decorations should be age appropriate for all students, K-5.

We ask that you bring at least 100 treats to handout. These can be food or non-food items. Edible treats should be nut-free (think skittles, starbursts, mini pretzel or goldfish packs, smarties, lollipops, etc...) Oriental Trading has lots of novelty toys and other goodies at really good prices.

Contact Christina Muchow at christinamuchow@gmail.com if you have any questions.

We have quite a gap in the number of church/district donations and the needs of the school population. With the holidays not too far out we would like to start collecting to ensure we can continue to provide a bag weekly.

We have a great start this year - receiving the Head Start Award for August. Let's keep the momentum going!

Purchasing a $10 PTA membership does not mean you are volunteering your time. It simply means you are supporting your PTA. It is also means you can vote at general meetings and gives you discounts at the following places:

 September - May

The Titan Garden needs your help to keep looking its best!

How You Can Help:

1. We need volunteers to adopt the Garden for each week of the school year.

2. Each volunteer signs up for 1 week (but only needs to come 1-2 times that week).

3. Now that our garden has an irrigation system (yay!) the responsibilities are only light weeding and pruning.

4. Your instructions will be emailed before your week begins.

 Thank you, Titans!

 September - May

We need one volunteer each week to help students receiving food from LISD's Backpack Program and RPE's Care Closet.

What will volunteers do?

From 2:00-2:45 on the last afternoon of each school week, a volunteer will meet students who are part of the LISD backpack program. Students will come down to the front office where the volunteer will make sure each student receives a bag of food to bring home for the weekend.

What is the LISD Backpack Program?

The LISD Backpack Program provides food that students in need can bring home for the weekend and over school breaks.

What is RPE's Care Closet?

The Care Closet was put together to supplement LISD's backpack program. Food has been donated by RPE families and local organizations/churches to further help RPE's students in need.
