Our garden is a community effort and we are so thankful for the numerous parents and community members volunteering their time to keep this garden thriving over the years.

If you are interested in helping sustain this amazing outdoor teaching resource for our school community then please let us know by contacting Liz Bushaw.  We welcome new gardeners and non-gardeners.

There are several ways you can volunteer:

1.  Adopt the Garden for one week during the year to help with weeding and pruning, this is done through the school Volunteer website: https://leander.ezcommunicator.net/edu/LEANDER/quick_login.aspx?OID=346&app=26&path=oppsignupurl

2.  Volunteer as a classroom Garden Buddy and help facilitate your child’s class to partake in garden organized events. Also, as a Garden Buddy you can enrich science education by teaching a lesson to your child’s class using the supplied lesson plans and various supplies in the shed.

3. Or one can simply attend Garden work days to help clean-up the weeds & prune vegetation in the Garden.

Any volunteered time is greatly appreciated!!

Titan Garden Events

  • Wildflower Stomp - Near the end of October, this event gives us an opportunity to discuss the many benefits of wildflowers and pollination. The students stomp a seed mixture into the ground and then can make observations throughout the year on the growth. As well as beautify our campus with an expanse of wildflowers.

  • Fall Planting - Performed by 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. Then these vegetables are monitored through the growing season and harvested in February for the Saladbration event.

  • Nature Wreath Making - During December students work together with their class to create a beautiful wreath decorated with nature discussing the types of plants and growing seasons.

  • Saladbration - Near the end of February, 4th and 5th grade will harvest vegetables from the garden.  Then all RPE students will have the opportunity to eat salads with vegetables grown from their very own Titan Garden during their lunch break. Parent volunteers are needed to clean and prepare vegetables and then serve the salads to the students.

  • Spring Planting- Performed by Kinder, 1st and 2nd graders.

  • 5th Grade Hand Prints - The Titan Garden has a new tradition that celebrates graduating fifth graders.  The students place their painted hand print on a garden bed wall to represent their presence and individual value at River Place Elementary and the world at large.  We will soon see a mural of consecutive graduating class hand prints that will show our school unity!  We want the kids to always remember how special they are individually and that they have a unique purpose.
